Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day 2025: Local Services and Events
As an estate agent with offices across Kent, Sussex and Surrey, Clarendons is deeply connected to the communities we serve. We understand that being part of a community means more than just buying and selling properties – it's about engaging with the people, traditions and important occasions that bring us together.
Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day are among the most significant of these occasions, when we come together to honour those who have served and sacrificed for our country. This year, Remembrance Sunday falls on 9 November, with Armistice Day following on Tuesday 11 November.
Services and commemorations will be taking place across all our local areas, and we encourage everyone to attend and pay their respects. Whether you're a long-standing resident or new to the area, these services offer an important opportunity to connect with your local community.
Reigate and Banstead
Remembrance Sunday events are being held at three locations across the borough on Sunday 9 November 2025. Services will take place at Shaw's Corner War Memorial in Redhill, Banstead War Memorial, and Horley War Memorial Gardens. Each location will provide an opportunity for local residents to gather and pay their respects to those who have served.
On the evening of Sunday 9 November, the Town Hall will be lit up to commemorate Remembrance Day and Armistice Day, providing a visible tribute to the fallen across the borough.
Tunbridge Wells
All are invited to attend the Service of Remembrance, Thanksgiving and Dedication from 10.50am at the War Memorial in Royal Tunbridge Wells. The Mayor, Councillor David Osborne, will join representatives of the Royal British Legion and other local organisations for the service.
The Mayor's Chaplain, Reverend Ronnie Williams (St Paul's Church, Rusthall), will conduct the service assisted by Pastor Gareth Jones (Pantiles Baptist Church) and the Kent Wing ATC Chaplain. Wreaths will be laid by members of the civic party, representatives of service organisations, political parties and local groups. Members of the public are also welcome to lay wreaths with assistance from the Wreath Marshal.
This year's service will pay tribute to Gerald Perryman, the last-known local survivor of WW2 who served in the Royal Artillery, along with other veterans from Tunbridge Wells who have died recently. Three young people from local schools will read poems they have written on the theme of remembrance.
Following the service, there will be a March Past for service and other organisations to pay their respects, with the Mayor taking the salute from the War Memorial. The service will be live streamed for those unable to attend at https://twbc.online/remembrance.
There will be disruption to traffic in Royal Tunbridge Wells town centre on Sunday 9 November, particularly around the town hall. Roads may be closed from 10am until approximately midday and on-street parking may be restricted.
At 12.45pm, the Mayor will attend the Civic Event at Tunbridge Wells Cemetery to lay wreaths at the four War Memorials. All are invited to attend, with the first wreath being laid at the Cross of Sacrifice in the WW2 Garden of Remembrance.
On Armistice Day, Tuesday 11 November, two ceremonies will be held. The first will be at the War Memorial at 10.55am, with the two minutes' silence marked by the firing of maroons (loud bangs). The second will follow at about 11.45am at the VC Memorial Grove in Dunorlan Park (close to the Bayhall Road entrance).
Tenterden
The Remembrance Sunday service in Tenterden will begin with the forming of the parade on Recreation Ground Road at 10.20am. The A28/High Street from West Cross to Recreation Ground Road will be closed from 10.25am to accommodate the ceremony.
At 10.30am, the parade will leave Recreation Ground Road and make its way to Tenterden War Memorial, where the service will begin at 10.50am. Following the laying of wreaths and the service, which concludes at 11.25am, the parade will make its way back to Church Road for dispersal. The road closure will end at 11.40am.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to line the parade route to show their respect and support for those taking part in this important commemoration.
Canterbury
Dozens of veterans, service personnel, cadets and VIPs will parade through Canterbury for the city's most solemn ceremony on Remembrance Sunday. The parade, led by the band of the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment, will muster in Iron Bar Square before setting off down Burgate at 10.10am to the Buttermarket, where wreaths will be laid at the war memorial.
This will be followed by a service of remembrance in Canterbury Cathedral, after which the parade will reform and march along Sun Street, Guildhall Street, The Parade and Rose Lane where the procession will dismiss and disperse. Road closures will be in place from 8.30am and the event should be concluded by 1pm.
Prior to Remembrance Sunday, at 6pm on Thursday 6 November, the Lord Mayor and Canterbury Royal British Legion president will lay crosses at a Field of Dedication at the East Kent Yeomanry Memorial.
On Armistice Day, Tuesday 11 November, there will be a two-minute silence at the Buttermarket Memorial at 11am where a bugler will sound the Last Post and Reveille. Similar commemorations will take place at the same time in Herne Bay Memorial Park and at the war memorial on the forecourt of Whitstable Library in Oxford Street.
Eastbourne
A remembrance service with military and civic parades will commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian service personnel during times of conflict, with a two-minute silence at 11am.
The military parade will form along Cornfield Road from 10.25am, gathering from Bankers Corner to the War Memorial. At 10.30am, a civic parade will take place from the Town Hall to the War Memorial. The service will begin at the War Memorial at 10.40am, followed by the two minutes silence at 11am and wreath laying. A parade will then follow along South Street from 11.20am.
All members of the community are welcome to attend and pay their respects to those who have served our country.
We encourage everyone in our communities to attend these important commemorations. Lest we forget.
